La Percée du Vin Jaune is a wine festival that takes place over two days in the month of February in Jura, to celebrate vin jaune (literally "yellow wine"), a type of white wine that is matured in oak casks after being fermented. The aim of the event is to help people discover and appreciate this wine, which is known for its almost indefinite keeping potential. There are four appellations: Château-chalon (AOC), Arbois (AOC), l'Étoile (AOC) and Côtes-du-Jura.
Each new edition of La Percée takes place in a different village. The principle is as follows: an entry ticket entitles the bearer to admission to the site, a tasting glass and ten tasting tickets. In the village, the winegrowers open their cellars to show their production methods to the public. In the streets, visitors wander joyfully, glass in hand, to the sound of the bandas and brass bands. There are also food stands for visitors throughout the weekend. You can enjoy regional specialities there: a franc-comtoise platter (sausage, potato, cancoillotte liquid cheese, bread), andouillette sausage, onion soup and of course the famous vins jaunes...
The event is characterised by a friendly atmosphere. There are also many activities in store, like a cookery contest on the theme of Jura wine, a wine waiting contest and clavelinage (judging of vins jaunes), an exhibition about vines and wine, and concerts. This gathering is a chance for visitors to discover the riches of the Jura terroir as well as meeting winegrowers who are keen to share their skills and passion for their work. The event attracts more than 60,000 visitors over two days.
