Founded in 1981, the Montpellier Danse contemporary dance festival takes place every June in Montpellier. Launched as an initiative by the City of Montpellier and the national choreographic centre, it is open to a broad audience and aims to be a meeting point for all forms of dance and all world cultures.
For fifteen days, international choreographic talents perform in iconic places in the city. The shows mainly take place at the Agora, a building entirely devoted to dance. Open since 2010, it is located at the very heart of the old city in the old Ursulines convent.
At each new edition, the Montpellier Danse festival offers fifty or so performances. The programme also includes film screenings, round table talks, exhibitions and special meetings with the artists.
