The famous champagne capital, Épernay, dons its most beautiful finery in mid-December to celebrate the gastronomic heritage of the region in a convivial and festive atmosphere. For three days, the city is lit up and there are many activities on offer, including a firework display and a big street parade on Avenue de Champagne, exhibitions, musical entertainment, cellar tours and a whole host of shows for children and adults.
The Champagne-style art of living is celebrated with cookery demonstrations by great chefs, oenological workshops and tastings of regional products. It's a chance to discover vintages by small producers and major brands that have made the reputation of the Champagne vineyards, as well as sweet treats and delicious cheeses from the region.
On Sunday morning there is a parade of several hundred collector's cars. In the afternoon there is a special tea party for children. Building on its success, the Habits de Lumière festival attracts over 35,000 spectators each year.
