Every spring since 1995, the city of Nantes has held a classical music festival named La Folle Journée. For five days there are around 250 classical music concerts of fairly short duration (45 minutes) at an affordable price. Most of the concerts take place at Nantes Convention Centre. The aim of this event is to promote renewed enthusiasm in classical music and make it accessible to a wide audience while maintaining high standards in terms of the line-up.
It's also a chance for the public and schools to meet musicians and composers. Each year a new theme is chosen, in tribute to a composer (Mozart, Brahms, Beethoven) or relating to a universal, multidisciplinary subject like "the Harmony of peoples", "Passions of heart and soul" or "Nature".
The festival has been such a success that the concept of La Folle Journée was soon exported to several towns in the Pays de la Loire region and abroad, in particular Tokyo since 2005 and Niigata and Warsaw since 2010.
