Created in 1984, the Lyon Dance Biennial is a contemporary dance festival that takes place in even years, alternating with the contemporary art biennial. For about a month, thousands of dancers from all over the world take over the venues and streets of Lyon with musical parades and artistic performances. Ballets, Samba, hip-hop, circus, African dance… all genres are represented.
The bill offers a total of over forty shows, including original creations presented to the public for the first time. This eclectic line-up has plenty for dance-lovers and anyone who is just curious. They can discover young choreographers and more established talents, as well as learning how to dance with their family or friends. There are also artists' residencies so spectators can meet dancers and choreographers in a friendly atmosphere.
The event draws around 100,000 spectators including over 80,000 people at the performance venues. A truly thrilling experience!
