Located in Southern Corsica, Zonza is an extremely large commune, spread over 134.46 km² between sea and mountain. Bordered by the Tyrrhenian Sea, the atypical commune is a real treasure nestled in the hollow of a wild nature between a seaside locally called Saint Lucia-of-Porto-Vecchio, where alternate coves and sandy beaches, And a mountainous hinterland truffled with places of all beauty bearing the name of Zonza. The economic activity is mainly agricultural and viticultural. The regional products will therefore make the happiness of the gourmands.
Zonza has not moved over time. Built in the 17th century, it has always focused its economy on polyculture and sheep and goat farming. The municipality of Zonza extends over several villages and hamlets including St. Lucia-of-Porto-Vecchio, Pinarello, Taglio Rosso and Baca, which will give you the opportunity to have a richness of unique landscape in a single destination.
The historical heritage of Zonza is remarkable. The two Genoese towers built to defend the coastline date from the 16th century. You will be able to see the square tower of Pinarello dating from the sixteenth century installed on the island of Pinarellu and the tower of Fautea overlooking the beaches and also dating from the sixteenth century. Continuing the tour, you will be able to admire the neo-Gothic parish church at the sculptured door, as well as the Santa Barbara chapel located further south of the town. During your visit you can also see the ruins of the medieval chapel of San Césario and that of the church of San Martino. Best kept, the chapels of Pinarello, Carabona and the Col de Bavella await you wisely. During your walk you will cross the road to the Saint Antoine de Padua oratory and many family tombs. The mills, bread ovens and oratories, which pigmented the landscape like so many vestiges of the past, are scattered throughout the mountain landscape.
Between the sea and the mountains, there is plenty of leisure. In the mountains, you will have at your service a multitude of guides ready to take you on the marked out paths to make you discover the most beautiful points of view of the town.
