Village of over 1,600 inhabitants, Xonrupt-Longemer takes place in the Greater East region, in the heart of the Vosges. Located in the upper valley of the Vologne, it is part of the Regional Natural Park of Ballons des Vosges. Limitrophe de Gérardmer, and located not far from Saint-Dié-des-Vosges, the town is known for being a family ski resort.
Formerly a dependency of Gerardmer, Xonrupt-Longemer developed as early as the 10th century, before becoming a full-fledged municipality in 1919 following a law dividing the city of Gerardmer in two. Mostly burnt by the Germans during the Second World War, the village still has an interesting architectural heritage.
The landscape of mountains and the various outdoor activities offered on the spot make Xonrupt-Longemer a commune appreciated by tourists and lovers of holidays in the calm and outdoors.
Walking in the heart of the village of Xonrupt-Longemer, it is possible to admire charming religious buildings like the chapel Saint Florent rebuilt in the first half of the eighteenth century and which has a bell dating from 1650. The church Sainte-Bernadette also deserves the detour for its traditional Vosges architecture.
Crossed by the Vologne, Lake Longemer is of glacial origin. Located at more than 700 meters of altitude, it has been classified, with its surroundings, Remarkable site. The place is known for practicing fishing, as well as boat rides, pedal boats, or windsurfing. The returnnemer lake, more wild, is to be discovered on the route of different hiking trails. However, it does not allow swimming or fishing.
The Pont des Fées, also present in the town of Gérardmer, or the tunnel of the Roche du Diable, built in 1858 on the will of Napoleon III, are also important sites of Xonrupt-Longemer.
The town has its own cross-country skiing and snowshoeing area, with several kilometers of tracks overlooking the valleys, lakes or the massif. Passing through forests, it is also connected to the domain of Gérardmer, and that of La Bresse. Just above Xonrupt-Longemer, the political station, very family, offers four tracks, blue and green, for the practice of downhill skiing or surfing. Toboggan runs are also available on site.
A botanical garden nestled at more than 1,200 meters above sea level, the Haut-Chitelet altitude garden reveals more than 2,500 species of plants from different cold or mountainous regions. Recognized as a remarkable garden, it is one of the richest in its category in Europe. Open between June and September, it allows to admire plants coming from the Himalayas, the Caucasus, China, Japan or New Zealand. The garden also has an elevated beech forest and a natural peat bog.
Competition of cross triathlon, the Xterra France takes place every year in July.
As of August 15, the lumberjack party is an opportunity to witness demonstrations of woodwork from the past, such as the felling of the traditional Vosges fir.
The festival Bring Your Grain is organized in August by the lake. For the occasion, concerts and circus art shows are offered.
