- A little history :
- The world's most famous vintage, Romanée-Conti is the located in the town of Vosne-Romanée, alongside other famous wines: Romanée-Saint-Vivant, Richebourg, La Tache, High Street, Romanée...
- The beautiful wine houses, one of which has kept most of its attributes the sixteenth century, do not forget the Gallo-Roman past of the place: "Romanée", according to tradition, recall a Roman post would have taken place along the commercial road linking Dijon to Beaune through Nuits. This path was parallel to the great Roman road on the edge of the Cistercian forest, this one being reserved for passage of military troops.
- Vosne takes its name from its fountain, as Vouge, means a wide river with many meanders.
- If we find trace of its existence in the seventh century, it was originally a mere hamlet dependent on the lords of Vergy whose history marry one of the lords of abbeys (Saint Vivant, Cîteaux, La Bussiere...) owners of vineyards.
- The monastery of the monks of the ancient priory of Saint-Vivant in Curtil-Vergy whose construction dates back to about 900, was destroyed in 1772, but its still impressive ruins are under reconstruction. And in today's Rue du Temps Perdu... to Vosne-Romanée, stood their vendangeoir, to achieve this they had to take a long road of about 11 km through their vineyards. In tribute to the monks, "the way of the monks" was rehabilitated, and one can walk between Curtil-Vergy and Vosne-Romanée through the most famous wines, Romanée St. Vivant whose and Romanée Conti! A historic and pleasant walk especially in the fall when the vines are red and gold.
