Villeneuve-au-Chemin is located on the RN 77 between Troyes and Auxerre. It is a commune of approximately 200 inhabitants forming part of the canton of Ervy-le-Châtel. The communal area is 333 hectares (including 100 hectares of communal forest) and is at an average altitude of 120 meters.
The foundation of Villeneuve-au-Chemin is closely linked to the Roman occupation. The Via Agrippa (Milan-Boulogne axis) merges with the current national road 77. It was on the outskirts of this Roman road that the first foundations of the New Town were to be established. Besides, in the place known as the Great Fountains, traces of these Roman remains have been found.
