City of Loir-et-Cher, on the old Roman road linking Tours to Bourges, Villefranche-sur-Cher takes place on the axis Orléans - Châteauroux, about fifty kilometers from Blois and its famous castle. It is located on the Cher and the Berry Canal, along the Sologne, not far from Vierzon and Romorantin-Lanthenay.
Mentioned in the registers in the second half of the 12th century, the town of Villefranche-sur-Cher was then owned by the lord of Vierzon. It developed mainly during the 19th century with the construction of the Berry Canal and the transport of goods between the Nivernais and Touraine.
Even today, Villefranche-sur-Cher attracts tourists passing by its quiet charm, its architectural heritage and its exceptional landscapes.
