Village of Ain, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, Villebois takes place about fifty kilometers from Bourg-en-Bresse, on the border of the Isère department. Known throughout the world for its stone quarries whose exploitation ceased in the 1950s, it is also located not far from Lagnieu, Souclin and Vertrieu.
Dependence of the châtellenie of Saint-Sorlin-en-Bugey for centuries, the municipality of Villebois has marked its economic and social history with the exploitation of stone which favored its expansion and the arrival of many workers in the origin of the creation of the hamlet of Bouis. These materials can be found all over France and around the world, especially at the Hôtel Dieu in Lyon.
Today focused on tourism, the village of Villebois is particularly popular with thrill seekers with the Rhéby and its canyoning courses.
