Coastal town of Calvados in the heart of Bessin, about twenty kilometers from Bayeux and its famous tapestry, Vierville-sur-Mer is one of the most popular sights of this part of Normandy. The village is indeed ideally located on the Normandy landing beaches, offering an amazing view of the sea of the Channel, and with many vestiges of the Second World War.
Vierville-sur-Mer extends on Omaha Beach, famous around the world and allows us to appreciate an important historical heritage and the pleasures of seaside activities. The Normandy village has an important tourist destination, offering visitors to pass a strong proposal of activities, both sporting and cultural.
On one of the terraces of the beach restaurants, you can taste the best seafood specialties or even the soil of Normandy and seductive taste buds of tourists in this seaside resort full of charm and sweetness of life.
Tourist village par excellence, Vierville-sur-Mer offers different sights to see on the Second World War in particular.
Just like in Arromanches, an artificial Mulberry bridge was built Vierville-sur-Mer by US troops in June 1944. It was partially destroyed by a storm shortly later, and you can still admire a unique dock connected to shore. It was along about 130 meters and consisted of old ways of the Arromanches floating port.
The DDay Omaha museum recalls the history of the village and its surroundings at the time of the Second World War, particularly the landing. In a building formerly built by the American genius and is located on the heights of Omaha Beach, it is possible to admire the collection of Michel Brissard. LCVP barges, armored turret, Engigma encoder, or tanks remember what happened so important in the region, as a slideshow and other display cases full of German or American objects.
On the beach of Vierville-sur-Mer, activities abound. Apart from swimming and leisure, it is possible to learn paragliding or sand yachting, while the rest of the village is ideal for practicing hiking, tennis, mountain biking and the horse riding.
Vierville-sur-Mer proposes each year various events and other events to beautify city streets.
Every year in June 6, commemorations of D-Day are organized facing the monument of the US National Guard, as a wreath-laying or a show in the village hall.
In August, Vierville-sur-Mer hosts the Omaha Festiv ', the rock festival of Omaha Beach. Local groups ignite a stage set facing the sea, and catering services are offered to visitors.
From mid-July to late August, harness rides are offered on the sea, and early August, a fair in everything takes place in the street of the sea.
