Village of Haute-Corse, Vezzani takes place on the eastern coast of the Island of Beauty. It is located on the edge of the Regional Natural Park of Corsica, in the old pieve of Castello. The town is located at a hundred kilometers from Bastia, not far from Lugo-di-Nazza, Venaco, and Altiani.
Of Ligurian origin, the municipality of Vezzani developed strongly in the course of the sixteenth century, populating more than 2,000 inhabitants. A few centuries later, the village is illustrated in the fight against the Genoese and the independence of Corsica, becoming the scene of several battles.
Today popular tourist city, Vezzani seduces as much by its landscapes as by its charming architectural heritage which testifies to the rich history of the village over the centuries.
Built in the second half of the nineteenth century, the fountain of Three Graces, cast iron, unveils masks and a sculpted group of Three Graces, Aglae, Thalie and Euphrosyne. Listed in the general inventory of cultural heritage, it was made after an original model of Germain Pilon located in the sixteenth century in the church of the Celestine Paris in tribute to Henry II.
Founded in the mid-seventeenth century, the Annunciation Church is a classic-style building with a carved side door of two imperial eagles. Its Notre-Dame-des-Grâces chapel, restored in the late 1990s presents a beautiful marble altar surmounted by a primitive Italian painting depicting the murder of Abel by Cain.
As you walk, do not miss to admire the weeping willow of St. Helena. More than 120 years old, it comes from a branch of the tree that watched over the tomb of Napoleon I on the island of St. Helena.
Housed in the former municipal washhouse, the wood museum presents a beautiful collection of objects used for woodwork from the early twentieth century to the present day.
But the natural heritage of Vezzani remains the main asset of the village. It is indeed possible to observe the local fauna and flora during hikes in the forest of Rospa, or on the peaks Cali, Chigliani, Scandola, Capizzali, Muracinto, or Finocchiaja.
On the 25th of March, Annunciation Day, the village organizes the celebration of its patron saint.
The feast of St. Quilicus takes place on July 15 with a blessing and various festivities.
The patronal festival of the village is organized every August 15 with a procession, and a ball.
