A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the immense park of the Palace of Versailles owes its international renown to the beauty of its French formal gardens, created in the 17th century for Louis XIV by the landscape gardener André Le Nôtre. A gem of the Classical style, the estate is a veritable open-air museum for walkers!
The majestic park extends over 815 hectares, divided in two by the Grand Canal, whose a long, luminous course extends the park's perspective and carries the viewer's gaze to infinity. As you stroll along the avenues, among statues, fountains, ponds, parterres and copses, you're sure to be dazzled by the splendour of the site's garden design.
Unmissable highlights include the Orangery Parterre, with its circular pool and two monumental staircases; the sumptuous Neptune Fountain, one of the largest in the park, adorned with statues and fountains; the Water Parterre, at the foot of the Hall of Mirrors; the immense Lake of the Swiss Guards, which spans over 13 hectares; and the incredible view from the Mirror Pool to Apollo's Fountain. The Petit Trianon and Grand Trianon, as well as the charming Queen's Hamlet, a secluded village where Marie-Antoinette could escape the hustle and bustle of court life, are other architectural gems you can admire on a stroll through history.
In summer, the Musical Fountains Show, the Night Fountains Show - with the highlight being an impressive firework display - and the Musical Gardens further add to the prestige of the location. There's plenty to amaze visitors of all ages!
