The village of Vernoux-en-Vivarais takes place in Ardèche, in the heart of High Vivarais. It is thirty kilometers from Valencia, surrounded by rivers like Duzon. Founded in the Middle Ages around the Benedictine abbey of Cruas, the town still has a beautiful old center and an architectural heritage of the most charming. Former great bastion of Protestantism, the city still bears traces.

Things to see and do

Former stronghold of Protestantism, the town still has Vernoux-en-Vivarais now an important architectural heritage from that era.

By discovering Vernoux-en-Vivarais, tourists can enjoy the church with the tallest steeple Ardèche with its 51 meters, or the ruins of Tourette.

The current Protestant church was built in the early nineteenth century on the remains of the first temple of the late sixteenth century. Simple in its architecture, it is one of the largest Protestant churches in France.

Built in the mid-thirteenth century, the castle of Vaussèche saw its facades and roofs listed historical monument. The fireplace in its large hall on the first floor was also listed building.

Events and festivities

Vernoux-en-Vivarais market takes place every Thursday morning. In summer, a summer market is held on Sunday morning.

July 14, the city offers in Vernoux Day with various entertainment throughout the day and evening.

In August, the city hosts the Jazz Festival in Vivarais with several concerts.
