Typical wine-growing village on the banks of the Canal du Midi, dominated by its double chateau, one intended for winemaking and the other serving as a home. The latter was erected in the 18th century on the ruins of a 12th century fortified castle. This large building with a square tower which dominates the plain with beautiful Italian terraced gardens is extended on its right by its "winegrower madness", a model of the 19th century type opening its doors to the Canal du Midi. This wine-making cellar-castle was built in 1880, at the height of the golden age of wine-growing Languedoc. Visiting this magnificent cellar is to immerse yourself in the history of wine and vines, it is to cross space and time under red brick vaults surrounded by their limestone ridges, it is also to be amazed at the singular glass vats and the impressive structure of a frame where styles blend with neo-Gothic evocations. It is also to discover the history of the exceptional characters who inhabited the place. Become a cooperative cellar in 1938, the Château de Ventenac is today without doubt the smallest cooperative in Languedoc because it only has a dozen members, passionate about their land, its heritage and history. Attached to this spirit of "cooperative" bond, the winegrowers and winegrowers have undertaken the difficult conversion either HVE or Organic of their vines and vinify in their walls vintages which can now present these environmental guarantee labels. Contemporary art exhibitions, concerts, festive and wine tourism events, gourmet walks are organized there all year round. The Château de Ventenac is a "particular cooperative" cellar, rich in its past and its avant-garde spirit. And in front of this "monument" La Marie-Thérèse "another exceptional witness of the Canal du Midi and the river transport of wine in Languedoc and the life of the" people of the water ". Canal du Midi which crosses Ventenac en Minervois contains all the civil engineering structures of the Canal du Midi except a lock. old canal bridge in the world, the one built by Pierre-Paul Riquet over the Repudre river.
