Castle Salgas is located in the municipality of Vebron in Lozère, 12 km south of Florac.
In the Cévennes National Park, it was rebuilt in the seventeenth century and rebuilt in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries on the foundations of an already mentioned in 1312 medieval castle.
The history of the place was marked by the fate of its owner, Baron Salgas, protestant, and took refuge in his castle after the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes. Favorable to the Camisards, he was arrested, condemned to the galleys, and was not released until the death of Louis XIV.
The building no longer today or defensive military reference. The works of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries have given it a residential appearance with adding pediments on the facades, replacement of slate by slate, construction of balconies, attics and dormers, plus the addition of a tower north is more aesthetic.
The exterior also have a landscape vocation.
Still privately owned, included in the Inventory, Castle Salgas not visited but its beautiful silhouette may stake a walk in the Cevennes region with so picturesque charms. Information +33 4 66 45 01 14 or +33 4 66 65 60 00.
