Town of Ariege in Occitan region Varilhes takes place about ten kilometers from Foix, in the heart of the urban area Pamiers. It is located on the banks of the high hills of Terrefort Ariege, near Crampagna, Verniolle and St. Bauzeil.
At the junction of the plain of the Ariege and Pre-Pyrenees, the town of Varilhes was born in the Middle Ages around a priory founded by Alet abbey and a castle, then owned by the Counts of Foix. If she knows after a peace relative, she suffered the brunt of the horrors of the French Revolution in the late eighteenth century. She also illustrated during the Second World War by showing an active resistance to the German occupation.
