The village of Bois-d'Oingt is located in the southern part of Beaujolais also called "Beaujolais golden stones", on the route of "the flowery road Beaujolais" which connects Tarare to Villefranche.
Since 1968, Le Bois-d'Oingt has been twinned with Mirwart, a small town in Wallonia, Belgium. The Bois-d'Oingt is classified "village of roses" since 1980. The inhabitants of Bois-d'Oingt are called Buireins and Buisantines, this by deformation of the word Buxum which means Boxwood.
