The Chapel of Our Lady of Nazareth is located Féral Philip Street in Toulouse, in the historic center of the city. The building was built in place of an earlier chapel 1452 to 1520 in a Gothic style.
Located in the heart of a neighborhood where lived most municipal magistrates (sheriffs) and many parliamentarians, the chapel built at their request and with the number of donations of them was essentially used by these personalities to the Revolution. It also housed the graves of many of these parishioners sorted on the shutter.
The bell tower of the chapel was destroyed in 1789 and soon after, a lawyer acquired it.
Worship is restored in 1800 and the chapel is assigned to the Brotherhood of Black Penitents in 1832 and missionaries in 1843.
During the twentieth century, the chapel reinstate the diocese, becoming in 1950 the parish dedicated to the Italian Catholic Mission Toulouse. More recently, it depends on the parish of Our Lady of Dalbade welcoming only occasionally as concerts before being closed indefinitely for safety reasons.
From the outside, inserting among other buildings in the street, you do not notice the chapel vaulted arched portal surmounted by a Gothic hug. The eardrum is further decorated with a pellet displaying a vine, a bird and a bunch of grapes surmounted Virgin and child.
Protected as historical monuments since the Second War, the chapel has within a lovely ribbed vault at the last bay, an altar and a beautifully crafted altar in the apse.
The chapel may stake a free ride or guided from historic Toulouse. Information 08 92180180.
