The castle of Torcy is located in the town of the same name, in the department of Saône-et-Loire, 5 km south-east of Le Creusot.
Located to the northeast of the town, it is the seat of the seigniory of Torcy and a feudal building is mentioned there from the 13th century.
The family of Torcy separated from it in 1615 and various owners followed one after the other. In 1743, it was acquired by Jean Villedieu, adviser to the parliament of Burgundy. It is to him that we owe the current castle, in neo-classical style, presenting in particular at the level of the facade of the house of three levels a central body projecting and surmounted by a triangular pediment decorated with plant motifs and coat of arms. At the time, the castle was nicknamed the "Louis XV pavilion"... It is connected by a covered passageway with French ceilings to a gatehouse.
Seized during the Revolution, the estate, which includes outbuildings and agricultural buildings, was sold several times until it was bought in 1918 by the Schneider family (who ran the factories in Le Creusot). The building was then renovated and modernized. Later, the Creusot Loire company becomes the owner. The castle hosts summer camps and archives are installed there.
After the bankruptcy of the industrial group, a new owner acquired the estate in 1986 and the château was listed in the Inventory shortly afterwards. The protection includes the gates but also two splendid tiled stoves.
The still private property is not open to the public. An equestrian center on the other hand has been installed in an outbuilding.
The castle and its vast park can mark out a walk.
