Sournia

Today in ruins, the Saint-Michel chapel was erected in the 11th century. Listed as a Historic Monument, this pre-Romanesque chapel consists of two adjoining naves covered by a framework.

While strolling through Sournia and its surroundings, you can also discover the old Sainte-Félicité church from the 11th century, listed as a Historic Monument. In the Carolingian pre-Romanesque style of Roussillon, it reveals a nave extended by an apse, both rectangular in shape.

Don't miss either the Saint-Laurent d'Arsa church, a 12th century Romanesque building listed as a Historic Monument or the Church of the Nativity of Notre-Dame erected in the 17th century in the highest part of the King's Fort.

On fine days, enjoy a walk to the hamlet of Pug, former stronghold of the Templars, or to the Menièr cave, a cave transformed into a chapel in the second half of the 19th century. It is also an opportunity to admire the Pou fountain or the Pou path which runs along the gardens irrigated by the canals fed by the water from the fountain.

Walking enthusiasts can also take the GR 36 long-distance footpath which links the English Channel to the Mediterranean Sea over more than 1,000 kilometres.

Concerts are organized in June on the occasion of the Fête de la Musique.

In mid-August, it's time for the local Saint-Laurent festival with its concerts and other entertainment for the whole family.
