Jean Aicard (1848-1921), poet, novelist.
In 1909, he was elected to the French Academy in the seat of François Coppée. It is his friend Pierre Loti who makes his acceptance speech. Jean Aicard would become mayor of the village in 1919.
It was in 1916 that the writer bought "the little house which seemed to huddle against the church" and baptized it with the name of his famous poacher: "l'Oustaou de Maurin of the Moors".

Jean Aicard (1848 Toulon - 1921 Paris), poet, writer and academician. He is the author of numerous works including the novel "Maurin des Maures" published in 1908, about the famous Provençal poacher. In 1869, at age 21, he was elected to the Académie du Var. He publishes his first book "Les Jeunes Beliefs" then he continues with essays, short stories, collections of poetry, plays and novels. On April 1, 1909, Jean Aicard was elected to the French Academy at the seat of François Coppée. He is 61 years old. Pierre Loti will respond to his acceptance speech on December 13, 1909.
In 1914, while out walking, he discovers Solliès-Ville. In 1916, he bought "the little house which seems to nestle against the church". Having become mayor of the village in 1919, he had the ruins of the Château des Forbin classified as a Historic Monument, in which he had his play: "Forbin de Solliès or the Testament of King René" played in August 1920 by the Comédie Française.
