Things to see and do

A true masterpiece of Romanesque architecture in Limousin, the Saint-Pierre-Saint-Paul abbey became in the 12th century the parish church of Saint-Michel. Listed as an historic monument, this Romanesque building strongly influenced the development of the Périgord style. From its delicate and impressive architecture, we can remember its nave covered with cupolas where we find arches resting on finely carved capitals. Inside, be sure to admire the oak stalls, as well as a 15th century painting of Saint Christopher.

Also listed as a Historic Monument, the Château de la Borie is one of the strong points of Solignac. Built in the 17th century, it reveals an elegant late Renaissance style. Completely restored, it now houses the La Borie foundation dedicated to music and the sound arts. Concerts and artist residencies are regularly organized there, and it is possible to discover the seven hectares of the garden of sounds. Arranged in the early 2010s, it combines landscape design and light.

While strolling in the Limousin town, you can also discover the 13th century Pont Rompu which takes place on the road to Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle, or the old Roman bridge. Marked hiking trails are also available to enjoy the local flora and fauna.
