Tourism, holidays & weekends guide in the Val-d'Oise

A commune of nearly 18,000 inhabitants, Soisy-sous-Montmorency takes place in Île-de-France, in the Val-d'Oise department. Close to Eaubonne and Enghien-les-Bains, it is only twenty kilometers from Cergy. Located in the heart of the Montmorency valley, it extends partly on the shores of Lake Enghien, about twelve kilometers from Paris and its monuments.

The ancient Soziacum developed in the Middle Ages, with the appearance of several fiefs in the parish. However, it was necessary to wait until the eighteenth century and the rise of Paris, so that the commune of Soisy-sous-Montmorency took on its full importance. Little by little, the city puts forward its market gardening farms, but also becomes a holiday resort for the wealthiest Parisians who have more and more secondary houses built there.

Today, "dormitory town" of the Paris region, it has largely abandoned its agricultural activities, offering a saving on the tertiary and the industry. The commune of Soisy-sous-Montmorency nevertheless has an interesting architectural heritage embellished with a green and welcoming.

Things to see and do

Built in the 13th century, the church of Saint-Germain underwent a complete transformation in the middle of the eighteenth century. Today it has a classical style, it reveals a tripartite facade on two levels, as well as a last vestige of its original construction, the bell tower of the fifteenth century. Inside, you can admire 16th century stalls classified as Historic Monuments as objects, and from the previous building. A modern extension was added to the church of Saint-Germain in the late 1960s.

There are only a few remains of one of the three castles of Soisy-sous-Montmorency, the castle of Val-Ombreux, now missing. It is thus possible to discover an orangerie of the eighteenth century which now serves as a place for exhibitions and cultural events and takes place in the heart of the park of Val-Ombreux. Classical in style, the building reveals a sober architecture embellished with gables.

Contrary to what the name suggests, the racecourse of Enghien-les-Bains is almost entirely in the territory of Soisy-sous-Montmorency. This horse racing field, inaugurated in the second half of the 19th century, is still home to many events, such as the Atlantic Prize or the festival of fireworks in the town of Enghien.

Two large parks take place on the territory of Soisy-sous-Montmorency, that of the Val-Ombreux and its many games for children, as well as the René-Bailly park. Rewarded with four flowers in the competition of towns and villages in bloom in France, the city today has more than twenty hectares of green spaces to discover while a walk in the vicinity.
