Abbey Saint-Paul de Wisques

Monument in Setques

Located at Setques, in the Pas-de-Calais, the Saint-Paul de Wisques abbey is a Benedictine abbey founded at the end of the 19th century, in 1889. Affiliated to the male branch of the congregation of Solesmes, it is today classified as Historical Monuments.

Chased by the anti-Catholic laws of 1901, the monks took refuge in the Netherlands, before returning to their property in 1920. It is from this time that date the current buildings in brick. Enlarged in the 1950s, the abbey also saw the foundation of a chapel of the monks in 1957 and a new hotel in the late 1960s.

Threatening to disappear for lack of new monks, the abbey of Saint-Paul de Wisques welcomed in the 2010s brothers of the Abbey Notre-Dame de Fontgombault. Open to the public, it offers spiritual and religious retreats as well as services.
