Church Saint-Erasme

Monument in Sercus

A true gem of Romanesque art, the Saint-Erasme church in Sercus, in the North, now enjoys a classification as an historic monument. Built in the 12th century, it has ferruginous sandstone foundations typical of this part of Flanders at the time.

Transformed into a hallekerque in the 16th century, it then saw its central nave enhanced and equipped with two side aisles. Inside, visitors can admire magnificent stained glass windows depicting the torment of Saint Erasmus, the life of Mary or the baptism of Jesus. An 18th century oak pulpit also proudly sits in the center of the Saint-Erasme church, presenting a figure of the four evangelists as well as two wooden angels.

The 12th century white stone bell tower is also listed as a Historic Monument, as does the organ from the mid 19th century.
