Seltz

Tourism, holidays & weekends guide in the Bas-Rhin

Commune Bas-Rhin, Alsace, Seltz owes its name to the Romans who settled there because of the strategic position on the Rhine. Formerly, the city played a role in addressing the fortress of barbarian tribes that want to invade the empire. Seltz is part of North Ried, surrounded by meadows and forests, making a green and wooded area.

City stage of EV Rhine Cycle Route 15, which connects the source of the Rhine from Andermatt to its mouth in Rotterdam Seltz offers a unique setting for a dynamic and sporting holiday. The presence of numerous hiking trails and other mountain bike routes make it an ideal place to admire the surrounding region and its charms.

Boasting an important heritage, the city of Seltz, which has nothing to do with the water of the same name, presents a real tourist attraction for lovers of old stones and exceptional monuments.

One that served as a career during the seventeenth century was rediscovered during archaeological excavations in the course of the 1980s foundations, burials and fragments of ceramics have been found particularly there. You can still see traces of the abbey church which once measured 70 meters long and thirty meters wide.

Built in the fourteenth century and rebuilt in the fifteenth, sixteenth, nineteenth and twentieth centuries, the Saint-Etienne church exist since the Merovingian period.
