Located in the department of Hauts-de-Seine, in the Île-de-France, the city of Sceaux is one of the most famous in the region. It is located about ten kilometers from Paris, in the district of Antony, in the heart of Hurepoix. The city is also crossed by the south of Paris green corridor which includes part of the route via Turonensis, one of the ways of the pilgrimage to Saint Jacques de Compostela.

Huppe, Sceaux is best known for its high concentration of green spaces, like its departmental park designed by Andre Le Notre himself to the personal domain of Colbert.

Very nice, the town also knows a rich architectural heritage that reflects the importance of the city of Sceaux over the centuries. Castles, museums and parks await you in this francilienne city with no shortage of charm and advantages.

Things to see and do

Famous throughout the country, the city of Sceaux has a large number of attractions to discover, especially green spaces.

Sceaux the departmental park, which covers 181 hectares, is surely one of the most famous sights of the city. It is a remnant of the old domain Colbert whose castle was destroyed at the time of the Consulate. In recent years, the park has hosted several cultural events of great importance as Supertramp concert, Madonna and Johnny Hallyday. Inside, visitors can experience according to their walks, a memorial of the Armenian genocide, or a significant number of Japanese cherry trees. The present castle was built in the neo-Louis XIII style. Today it houses the museum of the region Île-de-France, with a large collection of figurative painters of works of the School of Paris. It is also possible to discover a specialized documentation center on the history and heritage of the region.

The green areas are numerous in the city of Sceaux, including the garden of the Menagerie, a promenade popular with locals, or the Garden of Félibres. The latter in particular has sculptures of Frederic Mistral, Maurice Faure or Joseph Loubet, of félibres writers. Every year it holds the félibréenne party Sceaux. Every seven years, one can attend the famous Floral Games.

The Church of St. John Baptist de Sceaux is listed historical monument. It was built in the early thirteenth century on an ancient chapel dedicated to Saint Mamas. One can appreciate the stained glass windows of the sixteenth century.

Baroque small castle Sceaux was built in 1661 by an adviser to the king. It now houses various exhibitions.

The old town hall of Sceaux date of 1843. It was designed in an Italianate style by architect Claude Naissant. The venue now hosts exhibitions or conferences.

City Sceaux knows perpetual cultural activity in its streets and parks for the enjoyment of its visitors.

Sceaux the market every Wednesday and Saturday morning. An organic and traditional market also takes place on Sunday morning.

At year end, a Christmas market brings the streets of the city. Added to this is the famous fair figurines Sceaux in December.

A market of Provence takes place every year in June, as the southern and festivals that highlight félibréennes Provençal traditions dear to the city.

The Orangerie Sceaux of the festival is held annually since 1970 between August and September. On this occasion, several classical music concerts are organized.
