Sauzon

Tourism, holidays & weekends guide in the Morbihan

Village of Morbihan, Sauzon is located on the island of Belle-Ile-en-Mer off the mainland Britain. Located on the western part of it, it is about seven kilometers from the Palace, and spans over twenty square kilometers.

This charming little fishing port and marina, located on the estuary of the River Sauzon, is popular for its breathtaking scenery and idyllic calm. Former base Saxons pirates Tuck, who gave their name to the town, Sauzon received money from Louis Philippe in the nineteenth century to develop.

This is especially for nature and landscapes that the village is appreciated, but nevertheless discovered some beautiful vestiges constructed in the territory.

Things to see and do

Town of Belle Île, Sauzon unveils its visitors a beautiful fishing port and marina, and a lovely harbor. Formerly, you could discover Penhoët Castle, which was home to the famous actress Sarah Bernhardt. The building was unfortunately destroyed during the Second World War.

Romanesque Revival style, the Saint-Nicolas church replaced an earlier building destroyed during the nineteenth century. It is fully made of granite and limestone, like all religious buildings of the island, and it reveals in its interior a model of one of the five ships found on Belle-Ile-en-Mer.

Two menhirs stood still in the territory of Sauzon, and are nicknamed by locals, John and Jane.

Overlooking the beach is one of the most beautiful of the whole island. Popular with surfers for its strong waves, it has a lifeguard in July and August. A coastal path also passes through Sauzon, to admire the unique view of the sea and the local fauna and flora.

The Eden Garden Voyageur offers to discover the history of plants from the seafront.

Located on Sauzon, the bird sanctuary Koh Kastell is a peninsula that still shows some vestiges of habitat to the Iron Age.

The cross of Logonnet is one of the oldest of the island.
