Tourism, holidays & weekends guide in the Ariège

Saurat is a great town, it extends over the entire Saurat Valley to the Port of Bédeilhac Pass. There are 150 years, the municipality had almost 7,000 inhabitants, it is now home to nearly 680 !

In the past, there were many small industries (quarries, mines...), as well as farms. Gradually, all that disappeared with the arrival of modern times. It remains today a workshop where they produce " white gold " of Saurat. It is a stone which is converted into files for sharpening knives.
