Things to see and do

Medieval village perched Saumane-de-Vaucluse has a rich and interesting heritage for lovers of old stones and history.

Former property of the uncle of the famous Marquis de Sade's castle Saumane was classified as an historic monument. Built in the twelfth century, it has undergone many developments, particularly between the fourteenth and seventeenth centuries. Now private property, it is unfortunately not visit.

The Saint-Trophime church, built in the twelfth century, has a beautiful Romanesque style typical of the region. Priory of the abbey of Sénanque, she experienced many changes. It has a Romanesque belfry with a bell dating back to 1400.

In the village, visitors discover with pleasure a beautiful wash and many fountains that adorn the streets of Saumane.

Around the village, some beautiful Bories have their peculiar architecture. One can also enjoy some remains of the ancient ramparts and the dungeon of the ancient Castrum Salmana.

At a place called The Crémade, visitors can enjoy the small archaeological museum of the town of Saumane-de-Vaucluse and a santonnier which has very beautiful subjects of Provençal crèche.

Events and festivities

Small hilltop village, Saumane-de-Vaucluse does not lack animations of all kinds to highlight its history and heritage.

The Editions - Rencontres take place in the village in mid-June. On this occasion, writers, publishers and readers share their love of the book.

On the last Saturday of May, the town organizes a big free festive day: "La Saumanade" where parents and children gather around country and convivial animations.

In July, Saumane-de-Vaucluse celebrates the festival "Saumane en Soirées" with different animations. In mid-July, the village also celebrates its votive festival.

In consultation with the other communes of the Community of Communes of the Sorgues and Monts de Vaucluse, Saumane presents a show as part of the "Festival de la Sorgue".

The international string quartet festival in Luberon is set up in mid-August for exceptional concerts.

At the end of the year, a "day of Santa Claus" filled the children of this small village of Vaucluse with gifts.
