Small village of Gard located in the Occitanie region, Saumane takes place in the valley Borgne, not far from the town of Vigan. It is in the middle of fields and meadows, in the heart of the Cevennes.
Formerly called Castellas Saumane because of the presence of a small fortified work, the village suffered greatly from the wars of religion and was largely destroyed in the early eighteenth century, while its population was deported to Perpignan. Saumane, however, knows its golden age between the eighteenth and nineteenth century with the work of silk and the presence of two spinning mills of great renown.
After a disavowal in the middle of the twentieth century, the town has now turned to tourism, offering a large number of amenities for visitors passing.
