The Roccapina tower is located on the eponymous cape, in the town of Sartène, in the south-west of Corsica.
Overlooking the coast and a few tens of meters from the beach, the neighboring tower is a pink granite sculpture forged over time by the wind and the rain evoking a lion's head…
It was built in 17th century but its construction was already in the program of the last phase of work to equip the entire Corsican coast with towers (called Genoese) able to prevent possible barbarian incursions and then, over time, all inclinations of foreign powers.
The tower of Roccapina is circular and three levels high: the first is blind, a door on the other hand is located on the first floor from which one reaches the terrace. At this level, the old gatehouse has disappeared. Bretèches replaced the original machicolations. A well is located in the basement.
Built late, the tower, which had become obsolete in terms of military architecture, was abandoned in the 18th century.
The whole is protected as historical monuments.
This typical element of the island heritage can mark out a pleasant walk on the cape, in an exceptional natural environment, near the beach and the famous granite "lion".
