Saosnes was the first capital of Saosnois, capital of Pagus Sagonensis in the 3rd century then of the barony of Saosnois in the 12th century. The commune is made up of numerous localities including Montrenault, a former commune, absorbed by Saosnes in 1810.
It has two beautiful churches, St Julien and St Hilaire.
Several hiking trails allow you to walk there in complete safety.
