Samadet

While strolling in the town, you will be able to admire the church Saint-Jean-Baptiste, as well as the church Saint-Julien.

In order to highlight the history of its faience, Samadet opened a contemporary ceramic space at the Tursan Cultural Center. The departmental museum of faience and tableware, opened in the late 1960s, unveils the history of ceramics through including a model of the manufacture of Samadet and various pieces made over the centuries. A comparative exhibition with other major cities of faience makes it possible to highlight the characteristics of that of Samadet. There is also an exhibition to follow the evolution of the culinary arts from the Middle Ages to today.

Temporary exhibitions are held all year round in the Contemporary Ceramics space.

The ferias of Faïence are organized in March.

Entertainment is also available for the Pentecost celebrations in May or June.

• Despite its closure in 1840, Samadet ? S royal earthenware factory left its mark on the region and aroused great interest among local scholars. When new earthenware workshops emerged around 1880, it was by drawing on the forms and repertoires of traditional Samadet that ceramists found inspiration, from the purest copy to the most fanciful interpretation. In this talk, Alain Costes traces the history of the neo-Samadet : Bergerot in Pau, Pierre Duboy in Hagetmau and Henri Léon-Dufour and Louis Dage in Saint-Sever.

• An invitation to a conference on the international movement that in France bears the name of the store opened by Samuel Bing in 1895, Art Nouveau unites all fields of creation in the name of the unity of art, total art, and art for all. It echoes the professions of faith of many artists who abandoned the Beaux-Arts for the so-called "applied" or "decorative" arts from the 1890s onwards. Their ambition was to radically change art and living environments, with the aim of profound regeneration. As a result, the decorative arts (furniture, glass, ceramics, silverware, textiles) occupied an essential place alongside architecture. The public is invited to take a journey through the abundance of creations in Europe in 1900.
