Sainte-Suzanne-et-Chammes

The City of Sainte-Suzanne built a medieval triangle on a rocky outcrop overlooking the 70 m during the Erve (tributary of the Sarthe), bordering the Forest of Charnie. Its known history dates back to the unsuccessful siege of William the Conqueror in 1083 to 1086 (Camp of the English and dungeon can be visited), but there is also the Dolmen of Erves (oldest monument in the Mayenne) and remains from the Celts ("wall vitrified ").

Nicknamed "The Pearl of Maine", Sainte-Suzanne is the only town in France to be classified at once:

Sites to visit:

In the fortified: dungeon of early 11th and 17th houses from home in June 2009, an Interpretation Centre of Architecture and Heritage (CIAP), window on the many facets of the Land of Art and History Coëvrons-Mayenne and beyond, the department of Mayenne. Open all year (except Monday from October to April, December 25 and January 1). Free access into the courtyard, the dungeon (you can climb to the summit by walkways), and the sheep and entrance fee for the CIAP. Audio-guides paid, temporary exhibitions. Reservations for groups all year, check with the Tourist Office at Coëvrons +33 2 43 01 43 60.
Museum Auditorium (old audience of Justice), "A thousand years of history of the City" are presented through objects, reconstructed scenes, models and costumes. It shows in particular the oldest armor of France (1410-1430). Open: in the afternoon every day during the April holidays, weekends in May and June and daily in July and August. Reservations for groups all year, check with the Tourist Office of Coëvrons.
Toy Museum and Enamelled Plate: Exhibition of antique toys and enamel plates on a surface of 200 sqm, old grocery store and kitchen, living dolls and their accessories, reconstruction of a classroom. Open on weekends from 10am to 12pm and from 14h to 18h30 throughout the year and daily in July and August. Also go to this museum for the Little Tourist Train tickets.
Medieval and cultural center of La Ferte-Clairbois (2 km from Sainte-Suzanne direction shortbread): 15h Showtime Sundays from Easter to Halloween and every day in July and August. Medieval inn reservation. Reservations for groups all year, check with the Tourist Office of Coëvrons.
In the medieval city ramparts of the 14th and 15th centuries, Renaissance Manor, Castle Street, former home of King prosecutors. Sainte-Suzanne Church rebuilt in 1884, houses the statues of the fourteenth, fifteenth, sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, including that of Saint-Suzanne, patron saint of lovers. Walk the postern, medieval garden (free access).
