Natural paradise, the village of Sainte-Opportune-la-Mare takes place at the heart of the Eure, in Normandy. Located in the district of Bernay, it is the former stronghold of a large family of Norman nobility, the De la Mare, who gave it its name.

She who was once called Sainte-Opportune-close-Old Port and the place was home to Vikings then settled in Sicily and in England after William the Conqueror. Today, the village Sainte-Opportune-la-Mare is best known for its exceptional natural heritage. The site knows indeed preserved and almost wild nature in which it is pleasant to walk with family or lovers.

Things to see and do

Sainte-Opportune-la-Mare main tourist attraction, the Grand'Mare is in an old meander of the Seine. This is simply one of the largest natural lakes of Normandy. Designed as a resting place for migratory birds, it can also be driven on some trails.

The small Normandy village also takes place in the National Nature Reserve marsh Vernier. It reveals an important biodiversity, and several guided and educational tours available.
