Like many towns in France, Saint-Vallier is a city without history! Founded by a Roman general, it is not developed until the 19th century. Predominantly rural, it has known in the 17th century strong opposition among residents of a neighborhood and a neighboring lord.
Saint-Vallier received the 19th century the development of mining in the mining area. In 1856, the town has "lost" a part of its territory during the creation of the city of Montceau-les-Mines.
In the 1920s, the Polish immigration has required the construction of mining towns. The "Polish" culture is still very much around associations, culinary practices (delicatessen, pastries ...), exchanges with Poland. Twinning with Rybnik has continued for more than 50 years.
Two other towns are twinned with Saint-Vallier Wallerfangen Umbertide Germany and Italy.
Mostly residential city, Saint-Vallier also has economic advantages with a strong presence of craftsmen and highly innovative companies: construction hoists, Tunnelling, industrial maintenance, textile. Local trade plays its full role.
Saint-Vallier is a rural community with several environmentally friendly farms.
Every year in early July, the "Queulots follies" are a festival around the young audiences. In addition to the performances, activities are organized for children to meet the artists.
