Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue

Nestled in a quiet bay, sheltered from the westerly winds, Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue invites you to discover its historical heritage, with its two towers Vauban classified world heritage of UNESCO, but also the island of Tatihou and more wide, the Saint-Marcouf islands.

Main port on the east coast of the Cotentin, Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue is now one of the largest Lower Normandy fishing ports. Its marina, with 700 seats, welcomes boats from France, Germany, Belgium, England and the Netherlands.

Things to see and do

The Island of Tatihou: Nestled in the harbor of Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue, Ile Tatihou reflects three hundred years of turbulent history of intersecting events and military vocations commercial, scientific and educational. Today is an exceptional site that combines historical heritage and preserved natural environments.

Strong Vauban to defend the harbor: To defend the maritime border of the kingdom, Vauban proposed creating citadels or strongholds, of watchtowers and defense. Thus after 1692 were built the Towers of Hogue and Tatihou. Since July 8, 2008, they are classified as World Heritage by UNESCO.
