Small town located in the Pays de Serres of Coteaux, but also close to the Garonne valley. The village is named after the martyr of Illyria beheaded in the name of Christ after various torments under the Emperor Maximian in 305. Saint Urcisse was also a bishop of Cahors in the sixth century.
The site was occupied Saint-Urcisse at the end of the second Iron Age. Recent excavations have uncovered three walls and potsherds associated with this period. An ancient section of track was also discovered and therefore certifies that there has been an occupation of the site during the Gallo-Roman era.
The peculiarity of the village is its diverse natural heritage, particularly the orchid. Saint-Urcisse is also part of Natura 2000. The town is well integrated in the preservation area of the floral wealth to the tune of one quarter of its territory.
