Located in region Ile-de-France, is a common Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse Yvelines, which extends in the Chevreuse Valley. Located in the Regional Natural Park of the Chevreuse Valley, it borders the city of Gif-sur-Yvette.

The town is named after a former bishop of Reims who lived in the fifth century, St. Rémi. Green and quiet, Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse retained a popular rural environment, notably by visitors in search of the benefits of the countryside close to the advantages of the city.

Things to see and do

The town of Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse charm with its natural environment and its easy living, but also by its interesting architectural heritage.

The Coubertin castle was built in the late seventeenth century by Jean Freddy de Coubertin. Formerly owned by the niece of the famous baron behind the modern Olympic Games, it now houses the foundation of Coubertin. This organization aims to complete the training of young people from manual trades and develop companionship. Behind the castle, you can admire a beautiful English park, while the garden bronzes can appreciate beautiful statues from the French school of sculpture.

Classified as an historic monument, Castle Vaugien was built between the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century.

Built by André Wogenscky famous architect, home of Marta Pan, French sculptor of Hungarian origin, has the distinction of using the Modulor of Le Corbusier. The latter is a standard human silhouette that allows to design an architectural structure and residential units around people for maximum comfort.

Built in the twelfth century millstone, the church of Saint-Remi de Reims is one of the jewels of the town.

Housed on the heights of Chevreuse, the castle of the Madeleine is a fortress built between the eleventh and fourteenth centuries. It offers an exceptional view of the Yvette valley. This is where you can discover the Park House which manages the Regional Park of the Chevreuse Valley. It is possible to visit the courtyard and the walls, while an exhibition traces the history of the castle inside. Special buses also allow to discover the natural wonders of the park on guided tours.

Events and festivities

City Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse annually offers a number of important events, providing a lively and dynamic programming.

The Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse covered market welcomes traders Saturday and Wednesday morning.

At year end, a Christmas market is also available.

Between March and April, the city of Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse hosts Jazz at all hours, a festival with concerts by artists from around the world in different and varied styles.

Held annually in April, hiking mountain biking Jean Racine was created in 1992. Labelled by the French Federation of cycling, it offers several trips suitable for families or more athletic. His journey through the Regional Park of the Chevreuse Valley.

Each May, the city offers its festival of musical harmony Society Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse. For the occasion, visitors can attend a musical encounter between several international and local training.

Every two years, Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse hosts biennial world of bookbinding. Taking place in September, it is the opportunity to discover art binders and attend a competition.
