Oppidum of the Serre de Barri

Oppidum of the Serre de Barri is located in the municipality of Saint-Privat-de-Champclos in the north of the Gard, bordering the Cevennes, 30 km west of Pont-Saint-Esprit.

The very hilly resort consists of several hamlets. A castle belonging to the Dukes of Banne it was established in the Middle Ages. Now the state of the remains, it was advanced post office to protect their land near the fortified town of Barjac.

This strategic location was popular in antiquity. Thus, in the hamlet of Mas, was erected by the Gallo-Roman oppidum (fortified dwellings group identified by a speaker). Circular in shape, it was built on a high point.

It remains today a part of the perimeter wall consists of towering stones.

The site is free to access, can be the subject of a pleasant hike between woodlands and fields of lavender.
