Listed as an historic monument, the Saint-Pons cathedral in Saint-Pons-de-Thomières, in Hérault, was founded in the 10th century by Raymond III de Pons, then Count of Toulouse. Abbey at first, it was promoted cathedral in the 14th century, before undergoing transformations a century later with the construction of a Gothic choir.
Destroyed in the 16th century by the Huguenots, it was not restored until the 18th century, revealing a new facade in neoclassical style. Today, visitors can discover a marble choir from Caunes-Minervois and Italy, wooden stalls from the 17th century, as well as many objects classified or listed as Historical Monuments such as a statue of the Virgin and Child. in gilded wood from the 18th century, a tabernacle from the 19th century or even the painting of the Apotheosis of Saint Teresa of Avila from the 19th century.
