Populated since prehistoric times, as evidenced by the various tools found on site, the territory of Saint-Pierre-d'Irube developed in the Middle Ages thanks to agriculture. Things to see and do

Built in the middle of the 17th century and today listed as an historic monument, the benoîterie originally housed the benoîtes in charge of the maintenance of the church. Their mission was also to ring the bells during services. The building still stands proudly in the town, revealing typical Basque country architecture with its red and white facade.

The Saint-Pierre church is said to have been built between the 13th and 14th centuries. Heavily modified in the 18th century, it is completely in ruins following the events of the French Revolution before rising from its ashes. Around the building, it is possible to visit the cemetery with its old discoidal stelae.

Originally dependent on the Grand Lissague, the summer residence of the bishops of Bayonne, the chapel of Villa Quieta was built at the beginning of the 18th century. Rebuilt in the second half of the 19th century with a beautiful neo-Gothic facade, it still stands proudly in this city in southwestern France.

While strolling in Saint-Pierre-d'Irube, you can also admire the 19th century wash house, the old residences of the 17th and 18th centuries or the 19th century peristyle of the Quieta park before going to the Artague walk, a path signposted allowing access to belvederes offering breathtaking views of the Basque Pyrenees.

Events and festivities

At the end of June, the patronal festivals of Saint-Pierre-d'Irube take place with the program of concerts, a football tournament, the Swallow race, children's games or even animated meals and fireworks.
