Things to see and do

Of modest size, this Alpine village has none least some interest from the tourist and sporting point of view.

The museum of the valley is surely the main cultural attraction of the village of Saint-Paul-sur-Ubaye. Created in 1988, it deals with the popular arts and traditions in this part of France. in particular one can enjoy exhibitions and collections of old tools, while entertainment will allow you to learn about carpentry, cordage or to baking bread in wood.

At the junction of two valleys, the site of the forts of Tournoux was built in the nineteenth century. One can still admire lookouts and redoubts in ruins along the path Vars Larche. The redoubt of Berwick was the subject of a restoration and appears even in the state today.

The Church of St. Peter and St. Paul has bases of the late Middle Ages and you can still see part of the original choir. Rebuilt in the seventeenth century and fortified in the same period, it has experienced a renovation in the late 1960s the church was listed building. capitals decorated with heads of men in particular you can admire and animals, or sixteenth century frescoes discovered in the choir in the 1960 Inside the church, three altars with wooden altarpieces classified historic monument, as an antependium seventeenth century.

Built in 1620, the chapel of the Penitents is the largest of the ten chapels of this kind in the valley. On its front, may especially admire an oeil-de-boeuf shaped shell Saint-Jacques, or the arms of the House of Savoy.

Built in 1483, the house of the brotherhood of the Holy Spirit has a beautiful carved stone size.

Natural sites abound around Saint-Paul-sur-Ubaye, like the peaks of the massif of Chambeyron, or the upper valley of the Ubaye, one of the best preserved in the country. These sumptuous places are the site of many sports with skiing, sledding, or hiking trails.

Saint-Paul-sur-Ubaye around the hamlets of Serennes, St. Anthony Maurin, Maljasset, or Fouillouse are perfect for nice walks and admire the different sundials.
