Rural community, formerly agricultural Saint-Paul-la-Coste is located 300 meters above sea level, watered by the Galeizon and its tributary the Salandre. Backed by the foothills of the Cevennes, the municipality is located in the peripheral zone of the Cevennes National Park. Of 812 inhabitants in the early 20th century, it has only 264 today. Covered with oak trees in his part lime, chestnut and pine trees in the shale, beautiful cottages, farmhouses and hamlets reminiscent of its place, both in industry (silkworms, minerals) in agriculture . Common past unusual, it was inhabited from the late Neolithic. Many graves, bones, carvings testify to the presence of man in the valley. The religious war which broke out in 1702 with the assassination of Father of the Bridge Chaila Monvert (Lozère) plunged the town into a painful period of conflict. Indeed, it was regarded as a hotbed of rebellion but also a town where one of the first leaders camisard, the so-called Gideon Laporte was born and who had participated in the murder of the Abbot of Chail.
