Considered one of the oldest and largest in the region, the Saint-Bertin abbey takes place in the heart of Saint-Omer, in the Pas-de-Calais. Former Benedictine abbey founded in the 7th century at the edge of the marsh by the Bishop of Thérouanne, it knows a great prosperity until the throes of the French Revolution.
Mostly destroyed, she sees her monastic buildings dismantled and sold as national property. Today, a large landscaped park traces the history of this religious building, and the ruins of the Gothic church are now classified as Historical Monuments. Built at the beginning of the 13th century, it was originally 122 meters long, 40 meters wide and 25 high vaulted.
