The Aiguillon lighthouse is located on the Pointe de l'Eve, on the north coast of the Loire estuary, downstream from the port of Saint-Nazaire, access to which it secures by marking out the so-called Charpentiers pass.
It was built in 1756 in line with the Commerce Tower. The lighthouse was raised in 1857 and then provided with a guard house, nearby, then it was electrified in 1935.
Nowadays, the lighthouse is in the form of a cylindrical tower painted in white which supports a metal platform. It is nearly 22 m high and overlooks the water level by 25.5 m. Its range is 14 nautical miles, or 26 km.
Automated, the lighthouse is no longer guarded and cannot be visited. However, the site can mark a walk on the Chemin des Douaniers, near the Pointe de l'Eve and Port Charlotte beach. Information on +33 2 40 22 40 65.
