Small village in the Pyrenees-Atlantiques, Saint-Michel's border with Spain to the south and is part of the Basque province of Lower Navarre, and the district of Bayonne, located nearby. He is known to be a step in the various paths of the pilgrimage of Saint-Jacques de Compostela, such as via Podiensis, Via Turonensis, Via Lemovicencis and Camino Navarro. Saint-Michel was also the scene of a famous battle, that of Chateau-Pignon in 1793 against the Spanish. On this occasion, 700 French soldiers drove to blows over 1,800 Spanish soldiers bayonets.
